CASA OF WASHTENAW COUNTY (MICHIGAN)

The Washtenaw County CASA program serves as a model of government and nonprofit collaboration, and draws from the strengths of each sector to support the children who are in very unfortunate circumstances.  Founded in 1987, this program demonstrates how the public and private sectors can work together on behalf of neglected and abused children.

CASA VOLUNTEERS

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are volunteers who work on behalf of children removed from their homes because of neglect or abuse.
CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court, and conduct their advocacy duties within the boundaries of a court order.
A CASA is assigned one child or sibling set and devotes three or more hours per week to research and contact with foster parents, case workers, lawyers, therapists, and teachers. They conduct visits with the children and creates reports for the overseeing judge.
